i'm not really sure what makes me interesting.
i'm a rare mix of introvert/extrovert type of person. i'm not rich. i'm not a john lloyd look-alike. i'm not the school jock. i'm not a varsity player type. i'm no class achiever. i'm no emo. i'm no frat boy. i'm not artistic.

i am not like everybody else who is usually rendered as "interesting". i'm unpredictable. i can be whatever i want to be at any given time.

that's what makes me interesting. (and interested.)

Vinsanity vs. Panday

Today, I will usher in a new feature here in Manik Makina. Instead of posting lame videos, or scandalous pictures of mine, or anything with Megan Fox on it, I will let the people be the judge. (Oh shit, that has been done already?!)

Here comes the: ManikMakina's Insane Video Awards!

So, what makes the cut for the Award for insanity? It really depends whether the video itself exhibited forms of insanity, madness, delirious mind, deranged mind, foolishness, etc. OR, the video elicited an "insane"-like reaction from the viewer and resulted to extreme emotions, such as anger, sadness, shock, jubilation, etc.

And, what type of videos will be featured and nominated? There is no rule for nomination, no boundaries, no categories. Whichever video will be played head-to-head with a worthy contender for the Insane Video Awards!

The winner will be determined after a week of voting. (Comelec's Smartmatic will not be used)

Sa Ilog, ang mundo'y tahimik. Ako' nakikinig, sa awit ng hangin..

Nung Sabado at Linggo, kami ni tolskibots ay nagtungo sa kanilang bahay sa Lucban, Quezon. Di ko na mabilang kung ilang beses na akong nakapunta sa kanila, pero enjoy ako tuwing andoon ako. 

Ang aming agenda: ay ang magpicnic at magswimming sa ilog! (enter "Tabing-Ilog" theme song)

Oo, ilog. Wag mong isipin ang Pasig river. Change this. (Ibahin mo to.) Ang mga ilog duon ay malinis, buhay, flowing, safe pagliguan, at may buhay na isda. (Walang dagat ng basura, pramis.)

Anyhow inihaw, nung Linggo nga ay nagtungo kami doon sa Malinaw Spring and Resort, kasama ng kanilang family. (Salamat po sa pagsama sa akin, hehe.) At talagang parang may party ang aming mga kinain, may inihaw na tilapia, inihaw na pusit, inihaw na porkchop, di mabilang na fresh pakwan, pinya, hilaw na mangga, may pansit. At syempre, ang star ng handaan: LAMBANOG.

At syempre di kumpleto ang araw kapag di kami lumublob sa ilog.Masarap lumublob doon kapag may amats na. At grabe. Ang sarap. Dahil ang LAMIGLAMIG ng tubig na malinaw! May nakita pa nga akong nagpapalamig ng bote ng beer! Ganun kalamig. Hindi ito exagge. Ganun talaga kasarap. Talagang fresh pa galing sa mountains at talagang parang yelo kapag dumikit ka sa batuhan.

Di ko na kailangang lumangoy. Umupo lang ako sa may mala-"bath tub" na batuhan dun, at feeling  ko ay may cold jacuzzi na ako noon.

If I'll become an actor, I won't choose to be the lead actor. And I won't play a "good" role. I'm more of an "offbeat" character. (Yes, think of Johnny Depp.)

I love anti-hero roles. Like Hans Landa of the Inglourious Basterds. Or Agent Smith of the Matrix. The Pacquito Diaz. The Max Alvarado. Or even sidekick roles, that would be awesome.

The KickAss Underrated Roles. Indie roles would be the best.

Or if permitted, bomba roles are the bomb. sexay!

illumine Nation

It was a rocking Valentine's Day. Questions whether it is a legit "holiday", or just a "capitalist's strategy" or just a clever way of celebrating love and loved ones (isn't Christmas set-up for that?), we really don't know the answer. But definitely love is in the air. And we stuffed it up not with flowers, chocolates or any red stuff...we stuffed it with Rock and Roll.

What happens when it's the Valentine's Season? UP FAIR! We attended the LOVERAGE4 presentation. And at the UP Sunken Garden, for just 90 bucks, we came, we saw, and rocked the night out with everybody else in attendance.

I played an oldschool arcade game, wherein I get to throw balls unto wooden blocks and try to topple them for a prize. And yeah, after X attempts, tolskibot and I got Rico Mambo the Leopard Baby. (Initially he looked like a tiger from afar.)

Then after munching some shawarma, we braved the crowd and positioned ourselves at the center field, just a few meters away from the stage. (Last UP Fair, we got a backstage pass, but no luck this time around.)

We've witnessed amazing performances by unsigned bands, and mostly new acts. Some of the memorable acts were: Letter Days Story, a seemingly punk-genre band, then there's one of my faves: Roots of Nature. The lead guitarist/vocalist that had this mean dreadlocks really can rock out and play that damn guitar, whoa!
There's also Eevee, a band from Davao. The vocalist somehow resembles Raimund Marasigan, and their songs are reminiscent of 90's alternative rock.Then there's SoapDish. There's this band called Favored Enemy, reminds me of Basti's Wolfgang.

Calla Lily

LouGee with Delara

Then came Paraluman; Calla Lily's Keane swore he's wearing red undies. Too bad Ciudad played only 1 song. Itchyworms' 2 song set was too bitin, but they implied:"Rice is not nice." It was nice to see LouGee rock out with Delara again with those boyshorts she was wearing.

It was fun to see Tuesday Vargas' band TOP JUNK. Yes, she can sing.

Tuesday with Top Junk

Think of Put3ska's vocalist, yes, that caliber. Their music was somehow punkish-dancey-upbeat. And she was wearing this cute black dress, which is way above her knees, and she's trying to hide her "kabibe" everytime she bends over. She also hosted for a while, which is a treat for the crowd.

Arci Munoz

It was surprising to see the band "Philia"? or Filia? I'm not really sure. But the crowd was surprised to see DION Ignacio (Starstruck alumna) walk up the stage bringing a guitar. But it was even more shocking to see Arci Munoz to be their vocalist! Yes, she was pretty and all that, but she's trying to channel something like FLYLEAF, but it was honestly a mess. I hope they'll get better.Soon.

Itchyworms+Sugarfree

Ebe rocked the stage with Sugarfree. 6cyclemind played well.

And the main event: Rico Blanco. And this is my first time to see Rico perform live, not as Rivermaya with Bamboo, or Rivermaya 2.0. Just Rico, and his band. It was only a 5 song set (shortened due to time constraints, but it was a strong powerful set.)

He played Liwanag sa Dilim, a bit of Your Universe, Antukin, Yugto, and Ayuz.

And after seeing him live, I witnessed a true artist and an entertainer. Definitely one of the best live acts today. Oh, did I say he popped-and-locked onstage, just like on his video "Ayuz"? Awesome stuff Mr. Blanco.

After a few minutes, it was a blast. Literally, fireworks lit up the sky, sponsored by no less than Enchanted Kingdom.

We finished the night by seeing Sandwich perform Sugod, Laklak and The Procrastinator.

Raimund Rocks

It was almost 1 A.M. and the show isn't over yet, but we had to leave.

And THAT was a rocking ValenTIMES with tolskibot.

Mahirap yang situation na yan para sa akin.
