smoking hot?

Who loves to smoke? Who doesn't know anyone who doesn't smoke? I bet there is none. Each of us has a friend, classmate, family member, workmate, neighbor that smokes cigarettes. And I find it very annoying. I don't smoke. Yes, I did try it, and after a few puffs, never did again. I despise people who smoke in certain public transportations such as the bus, the jeep or even some taxi cabs. Or to sum it all, I hate smokers.
What is it with smoking?
Some people say it relieves their stress, helps them with digestion, blahblahblahs. I think it's all in their minds. They can't seem to accept that cigars have nicotine, an addictive component. They deny that it is the main reason why they can't stop smoking.
So, what do smokers really get for puffing these cigars? We all know about the cancer, other illnesses, and yet it seems these smokers are just confident of themselves and their health huh?
* Cigarette smoking has been identified as the most important source of preventable morbidity and premature mortality in the United States and the world.
* Smoking-related diseases cause an estimated 440,000 American deaths each year.
* Smoking costs the United States over $150 billion annually in health care costs.
* A 2004 Study by the CDC's National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion found that cigarette smoke contains over 4,800 chemicals, 69 of which are known to cause cancer.
* Women account for 39 percent of all smoking deaths.
* Children and adolescents who are active smokers will have increasingly severe respiratory illness, as they grow older.
* A shocking . . . 1 out of every 5 deaths is caused by tobacco.
* It is estimated that tobacco is responsible for 400,000 deaths in the US every single year
*Cigarettes are responsible for about 25% of deaths from residential fires, causing nearly 1,000 fire-related deaths and 3,300 injuries each year.
* Tobacco is blamed for many serious cardiovascular and pulmonary diseases.
“It seems unlikely that we will be able to locate a toxicologist [ a scientist who studies poisons] who will give a 'clean' opinion to tobacco, even if (s)he agrees that ingredients pose no risk. The most realistic hope is that we can get an opinion that tobacco is a 'risk factor.'” -1986 R.J. Reynolds (RJR) document

Facts about smoking - International studies of millions of people by government, industry, universities,
and private research institutions have determined that smoking can cause:
1. Stained teeth, fingers, and hair
2. Increased frequency of colds, particularly chest colds and bronchitis
3. Asthma
4. Neuralgia
5. Gastrointestinal difficulties, constipation, diarrhea, and colitis
6. Headaches
7. Nausea
8. Convulsions
9. Leukoflakia (smoker's patch)
10. Insomnia
11. Heart murmur
12. Buerger's disease (inflammation of blood vessel linings)
13. Shortness of breath
14. Arthritis
15. Smoker's hack
16. Nervousness
17. Wrinkles and premature aging
18. Tension

22.Emphysema
23.High blood pressure
24. Heart disease
25. Artherosclerosis & arteriosclerosis (thickening and loss of elasticity of the blood vessels with lessened blood flow)
26. Inflammation of the sinus passages
27. Tobacco angina (nicotine angina pectoris)
28. Pneumonia
29. Influenza
30. Pulmonary tuberculosis
31. Tobacco amblyopia

Second Hand Smoking Facts
* The EPA reported the following about Secondhand smoke.
* 3,000 nonsmoking adults die of diseases caused by exposure to second hand smoke every year.
* Secondhand smoke causes coughing, phlegm, chest discomfort and reduced lung function in nonsmokers.
* US infants and children under 18 months of age suffer some 150,000 to 300,000 respiratory tract infections (lung diseases such as pneumonia and bronchitis) every year, leading to 7,500 to 15,000 hospitalizations.
I guess from all these things, I can not find anything positive with smoking. All I know, is that it kills. Yes, that cigar you've puffed earlier, may be your last, who knows. Or, if it doesn't kill you, the child next to you will suffer a lot more than you will do.
So please, when the sign says "No Smoking", just try to think of it as a personal message to you.
It will be a better place without smoking.

this is for Iran
Sounds familiar right? It seems like another bit in a "news-around-the-world" where we just watch, and just shrug it off and become careless and insensitive to it. And just day to ourselves:" So what? I'm not in Iran. I don't know anybody in Iran. I've got more problems on my own, thanks."
True.
Indifference is ok? Wrong.
That must stop, right now. It's a different thing that we don't know anything at all, versus that we are aware, and yet, we still don't care. We are in the 21st century. All of us are global citizens. Barriers must be torn down. We are the ones separating ourselves from the world, from humanity.
Violence, arrests, crackdowns and media blackouts continue to increase in Iran in the aftermath of the recent presidential elections. wiki link

I don't want this to happen in my county, in my people. And I don't want to see these things happen to anyone.
How can I help? How can you help?
It may seem a gargantuan task, but if we all act together, we can do things, and as the cliche goes, make a difference.

sarap!
Bigla kang nag Ama Namin, at ilang
Aba
Maria.
At wala man lang makakakita sayo, walang sasagot.
Halos mamamalengke lahat. May nakabota. May naka-bayong. Mayron me timbang bitbit.
Parang lasing o kung ano man.
Tumayo. Lumingon sa kaliwa, kanan, harap, likuran. Nagkatitigan kayo. Iwas ka ng tingin. Sinilip ang ilalim ng upuan. Paulit-ulit.

Sounds barbaric? Yes. Pero wag mo isiping silya-electric. Di naman natutusta ang pasyente.
Samu't sari rin ang nangyari kagabi. Kaya wasted at wasak ako paguwi.
Di naman bilog ang buwan recently. Mukhang marami lang ang trip mag-wala ngayon. Ingat na lang sa mga readers. Or ingat na lang sakin no?

SPOILER!:Transformers 2:Revenge of the Fallen

The same cast and crew are back. Sam Witwicky (Shia Labeouf) is getting ready for another adventure, which is going to college. And his girlfriend, Mikaela will be left behind, together with Sam's parents, and his guardian, a Chevrolet Camaro robot, Bumblebee.
Then, something else goes wrong. Sam had a "minor accident" with an Allspark shard, which caused him to "see" alien symbols, which neither he, or any other known Transformer is able to understand. It is some sort of code, or a map.
But the Decepticons knew it leads to something very important, or rather, somewhere very important, which leads to an incomparable energy that will give them supreme dominance over their rival Autobots. Thus, they hunt for Sam.
If from the first movie, their leader Megatron was killed and buried deep in the ocean floor, yeah, you guessed it right, he will be resurrected.
And if you're asking if he's "The Fallen", the answer is a big NO. He is the ancestor of Decepticons, who once roamed Earth hundreds of years ago, who wanted to kill mankind. But was defeated by the Primes, or the ancestors of the Autobots. He is now seeking refuge, somewhere in deep space, waiting for the time to have his revenge, and Sam Witwicky will lead them to the key.
As the Autobots learn of this development, they must stop every Decepticon summoned from space who tries to hunt Sam, Mikaela, and even his parents. Helping them are the NEST, the same special military team that helped the Autobots fight the Decepticons on the first movie.
- More robots. A lot of robots. And huge ones too.
- Lots of explosions. Big bangs, big booms. Your seat and eardrums will shake every 5 seconds.
- Edge-of-seat feel. Some scenes will get your heart worked out.
- Great special effects. Almost realistic
- Not much plotholes
- Corny lines. Michael Bay must hire better writers. Too "slapstick".
- Off scenes. Again, on the "comedy" side. Too much dog pumping scenes. And a mini-robot dry-humping Megan Fox's foot. TOO unnecessary!
- Predictability factor.
- Too much focus on the "love" story between Sam and Mikaela.
- Unnecessary shots of Megan Fox trying to be "extra-sexy".
- Less Transformer robot focus. especially on fight scenes.
- Crowd scenes of running "ala-Armageddon".
Ok. This is a PG-13 film. And I'm a cartoon fan of the original series. It's okay for me over-all to watch this film. I am not looking for an Oscar-worthy performance here, I understand I wanted to see it to enjoy and have myself entertained.
But, the problem with sequels, they have this risk of getting the same mistakes from the first movie. For the Transformers movie series, it's about the lines. The comedy part is not a comedy part anymore. Yes, Michael Bay is not known as a comedian director, but they can do better lines than that. And I think Michael Bay just focused on explosions, crashes, fireballs, and explosions.
The verdict? I'm quite dissapointed.
I expected too much as the Transformer 1 was a success.
But this time, it fails.
I'm not sure on the box-office success this time, but over-all, it won't live up to people's expectations.
If the first Transformer movie is a 4, the Transformers 2:Revenge of the Fallen is a 3.

this is a like it!
Mayroon akong lumang account sa isang social networking site (note:not friendster!).
Ayon.
(oops, okray ulit)
Bakit? Dahil mas malupit ang "KANYANG" sinulat:
"if you ask why i need to find my soulmate and put up my numbers in my account, is it because ive experienced to be hurt, that is why, i want to find the man of my life here in the net, anyway, if you think so that you are the Mr. Right send me letter and picture of you in my mail address dont ask me why...?! i just the love the old type of showing love and care and not like this time, we are so technology dependent, so if you really want me to be your girl, do it, dont worry, im not a witch, i just want that we continue our communication by means of letters & our own penmanship, at the same time, i want that the man who is lucky, will not broke my hurt that easy because he suffer a lot just to hear & get my sweet YES.... take note: im in a hurry to have a boyfriend, the deadline is through out this year.... so....what are you waiting for....! take care, mwaah"
ok.
teka.

Filipino cager impresses NBA scouts
By Ronnie Nathanielsz
JAPETH Aguilar, who will join the Philippine national team coached by Yeng Guiao in the Jones Cup in Taipei and the Fiba Asia Men’s Basketball Championships in Tianjin, China in August, has impressed scouts on the first day of tryouts conducted by the NBA Developmental League in Los Angeles, Saturday.
Joseph Pimentel of ABS-CBN’s North American bureau and who shot exclusive footage of the tryouts and interviewed NBA scouts about Aguilar told www.insidesports.ph, Standard Today and Viva Sports that the 6’10” center looked good.
NBA scout Hernando Planells, who scouts for Marty Blake, Director of Scouting Services for the NBA, gave Pimentel his assessment of Aguilar.
“He s got potential. Athletically, he can run with the best big men out there. He’s long, athletic. He’s great. He had a block shot on a three-pointer. I think those are things that are definitely going to help him. Athleticism is the key to the game, whether it’s international or the NBA, so I think he has the potential to do some damage,” Plannells told Pimentel.
The scout added: “You’re looking for athleticism, you are looking for guys who can jump. Scoring is secondary. You want guys with good hands who can rebound because when you go to the next level, you’re looking for guys who can find a niche. Guys who can block shots, guys who can make the easy baskets. Things like that.”
Pimentel told Standard Today that although Aguilar’s team lost both games they played during the scrimmage, the lanky Filipino, who played for Western Kentucky University in the US National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I, had “a few blocked shots”
But he said the big centers and power forwards pushed him around a bit because of Aguilar’s slim frame, but that he compensated for this with his “leaping ability.”

Merong masamang balita kahapon.

Is novel H1N1 virus contagious?
CDC has determined that novel H1N1 virus is contagious and is spreading from human to human. However, at this time, it is not known how easily the virus spreads between people.
What are the signs and symptoms of this virus in people?
The symptoms of novel H1N1 flu virus in people are similar to the symptoms of seasonal flu and include fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue. A significant number of people who have been infected with this virus also have reported diarrhea and vomiting. Also, like seasonal flu, severe illnesses and death has occurred as a result of illness associated with this virus.
So ako'y nagka-fever. Headache. Bodyache. Sore Throat. Fatigue. LBM/semi-diarrhea.

FAME:I'm gonna live forever?
I'm gonna live forever
Baby remember my name”
Who wants fame? Who wants VIP status? Who wants that lifestyle of the rich and famous?
Or, the right question must be: Is there anyone who doesn't want fame?
I guess everybody deep inside of us wants to be famous. That's why "regular" people idolize many celebrities, be it sports athletes, movie actors, politicians, artists, etc.
And is an aspiring artist, who wants to be successful, willing to do anything to be famous? Such as sex, drugs, money and scandals?
I guess, not all of them.
We heard about what Paris Hilton did.
News were all about Britney.
Snoop Dogg had his spotlight on.
Then there’s 50 Cent, Kanye West, and Lindsay Lohan to name a few.
Oh, and yeah, Michael Jackson.
Creativity has nothing to do with these things. These factors are just staple ingredients of (in)famous celebrities who happens to have gone through some difficult times.
Yes, money does make the world go round, and it is a major factor for every living thing here on earth. I don’t see any problem dealing with money in the music business, as long as it is well-earned, then they deserve it.
But sex? An artist can be celibate and yet that person’s mind can’t stop the outflow of creative juices if he/she wanted to. An artist doesn’t have sex whenever they do their stuff, so, that means it just plays a minor part to an artist’s achievement.
Drugs? Some artist claim getting “inspiration” in doing their craft by using drugs, or alcohol. That may be true, but there are a lot of evidences of the ill-effects of these substances. Amy Winehouse may be known for her antics, but she can be really good without any other distractions and artificial “inspiration.”
And obviously scandal is not a good thing. Yes, you may get publicity from it. But in any other angle, it will always be a scandal. Take a cue from the King of Pop.
I may sound biased against artists who are known for their lifestyle of sex, drugs, and scandals. It is great to hear stories from successful people who went through the “blind” path, and did some wrongs, and yet they found their way out and have given themselves to be reborn.
And I’m sure, those people, if given another chance, wouldn’t have done the things they did. And they won’t preach on doing the same things they have done.
This is not limited to artists only, but also valid for every aspiring person who wanted to be successful.
There is a line that says: ” Nice guys finish last.”
But I say:”Nice guys finish right.”
And for sure, Fame will still remember your name.

BAKLESE!

by Louie Cano
Description: “Badutch, vhaklers, botomesa, ecla-voo, mascula-doll, pa-mhinta. It’s not what you call me, but what I answer to.”
This is the first dictionary of Filipino gayspeak. Very informative and entertaining!

Ten for the Zen
Superman and Orlando Magic lost in their own homecourt, giving Los Angeles Lakers its 15h franchise championship title, Kobe Bryant's 4th ring (1st without Shaq), and Coach Phil Jackson's 10th ring.
It will be a long tough summer for Superman, Jameer, Hedo, Rashard, and Coach Stan Van Gundy. But they exceeded every expectations, and they got more than what other people thought. They're not just good enough for the Lakers.Much respect for this young team.
The Lakers deserved the ring more than any other team this season. They had a very difficult road to the Finals, eliminating tough opponents like Utah Jazz, Houston Rockets, and the Denver Nuggets.
They lost the Finals last year to the rival Boston Celtics, and lost that game in an embarassing way.
And this year, they made sure it won't happen again. (or, on them that is)
This time, it is sweet redemption for the Finals MVP, Kobe Bryant. As much as many fans adore him, he also has a lot of critics and doubters. For those people who kept on saying that he won't win another ring without Shaquille O'Neal, he proved them wrong. And as for that line of thought, that critique would be very immature, and say childish.
First of all, would Shaq win 3 titles with the Lakers without Kobe? Would Shaq won his 4th with the Heat without D-Wade? Would the Lakers win titles without Robert Horry, Rick Fox, Derek Fisher, Lamar Odom, Pau Gasol, etc.?
Or would Jordan won 6 titles without Scottie Pippen, Steve Kerr, John Paxson, Dennis Rodman, etc.?
Basketball is, and will always be, a team basketball. You can be the best player, but without good teammates, you won't succeed. Go ask Reggie Miller, Patrick Ewing, Charles Barkley, Allen Iverson, and many other ring-less greats.
In NBA, amazing happens, but everybody needs everybody.
And while we are on the count of rings, it doesn't matter much either. Maybe you'l think, the more rings a player has, the better he is among others. That may be true, but not all the time. Bill Russell may have 11 rings, and yeah, he's also a Hall of Famer. But Robert Horry has 7 rings. so, does that make him better than Michael Jordan, who "only" has 6 rings?
So, that argument of who has the most rings will not always be a reliable source for comparison.
By the way, Steve Kerr has four rings, matching Kobe's 4.
Personally, if you'd deal with the number of rings, I'd like to associate it better with the coaches. For they are the central driving force of gathering the team, guiding and teaching them the game. They deal with great players, and mix them up with mediocre talents. They deal with monsterous egos, and must tame them for the good of the team.
Coach Phil Jackson got his 10th ring, the most by any coach in NBA history, eventually passing the late Red Auerbach, the great Boston Celtics coach, leaving him with 9 rings.
The Zen Master's dominance in the NBA now spans two decades, winning 6 with arguably the best player ever, Michael Jordan, then won three championships with Shaquille O'Neal as the alpha dog, and now this time with Kobe as the Finals MVP.Coach Phil's job may seem easy when his team has a Jordan/Shaq/Kobe. But dealing with these superstars and their ego's may be a more difficult task than imagined. Plus the chemistry of players, down to the last player sitting on the bench, affects the whole team, and may alter the season.
But Jackson did a great job. He loved preparation. He loved teaching new kids not just on plays, but focused more on mental toughness on each player, for them to make the plays come crunch time.
That's why he always seemed calm, quiet, and rarely stands up despite down 10 points in a game, because he knew he prepared his players well.
He didn't care if Andrew Bynum gets in foul trouble, or if Lamar messes up a play, or Kobe missed a shot, or Trevor Ariza gets a technical, or Pau hobbling down the court. It's because he trusts his team that they, as a whole, as a wolfpack, can do things together.
This team may not be the best team in NBA history, but the Zen made sure they at least play like one.
And for that, I'd say Phil is the best NBA coach.( and kudos to you Mr. Red, but I think someone is better, like ever).

mahirap
mahirap ata pag-isipan yan.

Rediscover Manila–aboard a Pasig River cruise
By Sunshine Lichauco de Leon
Philippine Daily Inquirer
First Posted 02:06:00 06/14/2009
MANILA, Philippines – “The state of the Pasig River today mirrors the state of the country. And the potential of the river mirrors the potential of the country. It might take a generation to make it happen, but the river, and the country, can be transformed,” said Tourism Secretary Ace Durano as he observed the view from the deck of the Pasig River Ferry.
Durano recently took the ferry as part of the launch of a new tourism program. Thanks to a partnership between Philcoa, an association of tour operators that exclusively promotes in-bound and domestic tourism, and Department of Tourism and ABS-CBN’s “Kapit Bisig sa Ilog Pasig” project, visitors can now use the Pasig River “to see and explore Manila.”
Alternative
Providing an alternative to the more conventional tour package trips to Luneta, the National Museum or Intramuros, this new program is centered on the concept of “Beyond the Usual.” Its first tour, “Pasig Ferry Cruise and Binondo Culinary Walking Tour” is just the beginning.
The ferryboat cruise will start at the station in Mandaluyong and end in Escolta. En route, the air-conditioned, 150-passenger boat passes historical areas such as Malacañang Palace and Sta. Ana. An outside deck is also available for those who want fresh air and a glimpse of water lilies floating by.
Starting in September, pre-taped audio-visual presentations will be shown onboard on all ferries with tours, with historical facts and stories shared as each particular area of interest is passed by the ferry.
A guide from the Mabuhay Guides group, the DOT’s highly-trained team of tourist guides, will meet the group at Escolta and conduct a three-hour walking tour of the highlights of Binondo.
The tour provides historical information and insights on what life was like in a bygone era, with visits to streets such as Escolta, Tomas Pinpin, Quintin Paredes, Ongpin, Condesa, and Enrique Yuchengco.
A visit to a local Philippine-Chinese temple is also included. To provide a break from experiencing the sights and sounds of this bustling area of little streets and alleys, stops are made at different eateries where participants can try things such as delicious dumplings and fresh Chinese lumpia.
Although walking tours of Binondo exist, this program is unique in that it uses the Pasig River as a means to transport local and foreign tourists to the heart of what was once “Chinatown.”
Walking tours emanating from other Pasig River Ferry stations will be launched in September.
Within the next two years, tourists will be able to disembark at the Mexico station for a walking tour of Intramuros; the Sta. Ana station for a heritage tour of Sta. Ana; and Guadalupe for shopping at nearby Shangri-La Plaza, and SM Megamall.
Sense of pride
As Clang Garcia, owner of Jeepney Tours and Philcoa member, says, “It gives me a sense of pride to rediscover the richness of Philippine history. Seeing it through such an unusual experience of traveling on the Pasig River only heightens that affect. It made me feel connected to my real identity as a Filipino.”
According to Durano, the Pasig River tour program is important because everything begins with building appreciation of this vital waterway.
“We just need more people to appreciate it and to not continue the mind-set of past generations, which have neglected what we have. It can dramatically improve the quality of life of residents of Metro Manila,” he says.
The Pasig Ferry Cruise, along with its peripheral tours, is just one example of the “Beyond the Usual” tour packages that have been created by Philtoa. The rest will be officially launched at the Philippine Travel Mart on Sept. 4. The fair is open to the public.

thoughtpic: akomismo salbahe
kaya pag may kasiyahan, sila nama'y pagbigyan.
sangkaterbang tao'y handang magtiis at magtyaga
More or less ay 20,000 katao ang nandoon nung gabing yon!
Nag-umpisa ang The Dawn, with Barbie Almalbis on guitars (wala si Francis Brew), at kasama si hiphiop artist D-Coy, at tinugtog nila ang "Mga Kababayan Ko" ni FrancisM in his honor.
